One has to wonder why anyone would cast Christoper Walken as anything when Javier Bardem was available and Penelope Cruz might be bundled as part of a package deal. Makes no sense.

The answer is simple. While Javier Bardem is an excellent actor, his portrayal of someone who was mentally unstable in "No Country for Old Men", while excellent, just wasn't really convincing. Now Walken on the other hand, is absolutely crazy, and is type cast that way in EVERY role he's ever played. When you need a crazy guy, accept no substitute. Well, maybe Willam DeFoe if you're in a bind, but Walken wins every time for the crazy/mentally unstable/ruthless kinda guy.
However, it should be noted that Javier is my hero for getting to sleep by Penelope Cruz every night. Man that woman can stop a clock!
