Today was awesome. We had a huge turnout to our open house. Almost a hundred visitors. Fortunately I got up really early and my buddy, Greg, came and got me a couple hours early. Good thing. I cleaned all the track first. While I was getting the trains up and running they derailed constantaly. He tended to last minute yard work - this is a G (about 1:20)scale outdoor garden train - while I continued to straighten out the derailment issues to no avail. He got done with the yard and was attempting to get his newest addition up and running - a trolley line. Neither of us was having any luck at all. After about 2 hours we managed to get everything straightened out just in time for the first visitors.
The most awesome part was how the kids, and elderly, and fellow model railroaders reacted. The kids: "WOW!!! AWESOME!!!". Everyone else was just filled with compliments.
Lots of videos and pics were taken. I have none - yet.
Greg is a member of the local NMRA - National Model Railroader Association.
Yet another adventure for me. I've helped do an open house before but not to this level of traffic.
Hopefully I can get some pics soon.
[another worn out] E.
When my son was in 1st grade, there was a presentation by a man who was into this. He set up the presentation for several hours. The kids got around and he turned it on. After two loops, my son, the genius, thought that he would place something on the track. Auto derailment. The man obviously was mad but kept his cool.
I got a call to come and discipline him at school. I told them to whip him as they were there and he would respect them for punishing them. They couldn't do that. I had a hard time, as it was really funny (they showed me the video) but I had to tear him up at school for doing that. He's a good kid, but 6 year olds are hammer heads at times. He's 13 now and I think it's getting worse in a way. 🙂
