The mining towns in the area are famous for having people disappear. Completely. The rumor is that anyone who comes up missing is at the bottom of a mine shaft. That may be true. Also, sink holes are a fairly common occurrence as old mines collapse. The City of Galena, Kansas has had major problems with that in recent months, again.
