Sorry I never posted about this before. I got caught off-guard and quite frankly had a bad feeling about it all.
This past Sunday, Granny, who will be 94 in exactly one month from today, fell in the bathroom while reaching for her cane. First thought was she had broken that hip it it would be replaced. She was whisked off to the hospital immediately. By that evening, it was determined that it wasn't the hip but rather the upper part of the femur known as the trochanter (the ball that goes into the hip socket). More specifically in anatomical terms it is known as a "inter-trochanteric fractue".

Surgery was done Monday afternoon. Tuesday morning they got her out of bed and on her feet with her full weight. Truly amazing!! That afternoon and evening, they already had her started on light physical therapy. Wednesday they started her on [almost] regular PT.
Dad just called about 30 minutes ago and she was on her back home [to the assisted care facility]. She will be in more specialized/monitored care area for a yet un-determined time (Dad thinks maybe a month) before she can go back to her own and do her own thing.
Given her age and rather out of shape condition, I was not having a good feeling about it all.
I am happy to report all is far better than I would have ever imagined.

Good news indeed, Eric. Granny'll probably outlive us all!

truly wonderful news. A broken hip at that age would not be good.
PS: They did not have to replace the hip.
