I noticed my vision starting to get foggy on the drive to work about 9 years ago and paid special attention to it for about a month before going to my primary doctor.?ÿ When he examined my eyes he found that I had cataracs in both, one was so bad that he couldn't see through the clouding.?ÿ He referred me to an eye surgeon associated with Wills Eye Hospital out of Philly.
The eye surgeon examined my eyes and told me that I needed a lense replacement in both eyes.?ÿ They did topographic imaging of both eyes using a Topcon camera and the surgeon advised me that I was a good candidate for specialized lenses that would have me no longer dependent on eye glasses that I had worn for about 20 years.?ÿ It would cost me $400/eye out of pocket. I declined to spend the $800 at the time.
When I went back to him for a pre-op check up he told me he was going to give me the lenses for free because I was such a good candidate for them.?ÿ He replaced one lense and the difference in my vision was amazing, then he did the second one three weeks later, same results.
Nine +/- years later I remain free of eye glasses, with crisp vision but and married to sunglasses on sunny days.?ÿ I onlt need Walmart $3 cheater glasses for tiny print.
@jflamm I'm glad it worked well for you.?ÿ Anytime I wear glasses during summer in the field, I'm annoyed by it a little as well, contacts don't bother me at all.
Still not interested in being the portion of the 30% who don't get rid of the dry eye problem and really not interested in being part of the 1% that WILL have bigger issues.
@skeeter1996 Hopefully a little tune-up will fix you back to better than before.?ÿ It is apparently not very unusual that folks need to go back in and get a little more adjustment done.
It was kind of amusing in the first month or two after having it done.?ÿ When I'd go to put a T-shirt on or take one off I'd reach for my glasses to remove them but they weren't there.?ÿ When I was doing some ROW fieldwork I'd be parked along the highway and when walking back to the truck in slushy conditions passing vehicles would hit me with spray.?ÿ I would instinctively close my eyes and then expect to open them to spotty glasses but I'd open them to crystal clear everything and think wow, how in the world did that completely miss my glasses... only to realize I'm not wearing any.?ÿ It's creepy how the brain can get so used to something.
