Thought I would post an update to my research regarding developing iPad apps that you all are interested in.
Well it would appear I wasted about a 10 hour download to get the developer toolkit. About 3.5 gig all told. First thing it said was it only runs on Max OS's. It could have told me all that before I registered as an Apple Developer and then spent all that time downloading the stuff.
Oh well.
If I had read this earlier I would have told you.

I agree with Adam. http://developer.android.com/index.html
Android developers have a great community and forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/
Even a Mac OSX virtual machine is tough, because the OS is too damn finicky to run on a lot of hardware and VMs. I have heard of some folks turning netbooks into hackintoshes for developing.
