I got caught up in the "Baseline Incident" traffic today.
It's a 3 acre grass fire next to Baseline Road in Roseville (not a Baseline, it's one of the Standard Parallels north of Mount Diablo I.P.).
The Sheriff's Deputy would've let me go on down the closed road because I have the shields on the door but I figured I better not since I'm not assigned to the incident; I'm just a civilian trying to get somewhere.
I would think, especially with the shields on the door, I would not just drive through a grass fire area. They might expect me to know what to do about it when I got there.
Steve we've discussed the same thing a few times.
They dispatch us to incidents to do mapping and they always just waive us through like we know what we're doing.
Common Sense comes into play.
No way. I thought Common Sense died years ago.
Good call David. They do not need another vehicle that might get in the way or that might get into trouble itself. The first thing they teach you about first responding is to take care of yourself.
If you are not trained then you would just be a hindrance and could in fact cause the ones trained to have to risk themselves to save you. Fires can be unpredictable, as I'm sure you know, and they don't need civilians wandering about the area.

Smart decision, I was taught if I wasn't part of a coordinated response, get out of the way. Not doing that is a good way to become the next victim and require more resources be used for your rescue and away from the fire.
