Meteorology: the GIS of Science.
Many thanks for those with the premature best wishes. Looks like the real storm will go right around Cape Cod. Still pulled in all of the plants, patio furniture and moved the cars from under the trees, but we're just going to get a typical winter storm.
Good luck to all of those in the path or closer to the path. I hope it fizzles out and you don't get the Vermont level of damage from Irene.
I hope that prediction comes true for your sake!
At Port Newark we will see the surge from 6-11 due to our location. If the channels overflow their banks it will flood all the roads and then the railyard between the port and the NJ Turnpike. After that is will be the airport (EWR).
The former Military Ocean Terminal in Bayonne will be under water.
All the construction projects will come to a halt.
Then comes the clean up.
I dunno...an 11' foot flood surge is scary. Mandatory evacuations are underway, I hope everybody is ok...This is a nor'easter and it won't weaken over cold water, as a matter of fact it may get stronger.
On the bright side, at least parts of New Jersey will get cleaned up...
Best of luck riding it out.
The 11' surge is only scary if you live near the water.
Only a damned fool would build more than a fishing shack near the water. - Zenus Kendrick (My great-grandfather expressing a simple law of the shore; someday it will fall into the sea.)
let's rename it hurricane a-rod
then it can't hit anything. safe waters to all. eddie out
