Easton, PA does not, at least not today.
Easton, PA was one of only three towns that read the Declaration of Independence in 1776. One reason no doubt is because Easton resident George Taylor was one of the Signers. George was the PA delegate to represent the County of Northampton. When originally created in 1752 Northampton County was the entire Northeast section of Pennsylvania.
On July 8, 1776 the Declaration was read from the Courthouse steps in Center Square Easton. It was preceded by a parade of light infantry from the PA 1st Battalion. The flag they carried is believed to be the first ensign with 13 stars and stripes. The USA has refused to acknowledge this flag but it is on constant display at the Easton library, and everyone that cares in this area has a copy. I have adopted the Easton Flag as my avatar and introduce it today. To say my avatar is contrary to the norm says it all.
Easton, PA celebrates it's Heritage Day with a weekend festival after the 4th, history, fun, food and fireworks. If we want to see fireworks on the 4th we go elsewhere.
