I got an older Lasercraft Contour XLRic a while back on ebay.
About the size of a kids lunch pail.
Nifty.
Electronic Compass, Reduction to Horizontal and Vertical, etc.
Measured to a tree with leaves at 3600 feet.
Supposedly will go to 8000 ft with a reflector.
Have not seriously tried to communicate with the Bluetooth though.

I swear by our Leica handhelds. You can get the simple one for about $100 and the complex for more. We only use the simple functions but purchased the complex ones. These are a necessary tool for anyone running GPS locating trees, telephone poles, building corners, etc.

For building corners, I setup the rover on a bipod, measure to all the corners I can see and write them in the fieldbook while the unit is processing epochs. Then I move and repeat twice. The fluff in the RTK is averaged out and the corner is located as well as with an offset prism.

You ever use the point, point on line, distance functions? Grab a tree or a utility pole by measuring from the second shot to it. How close can you expect to get a crooked tree?

Ever have to measure floor plans? When the laser is better than 1/16th" you can zap away. We have many rough floor plans needed and I can zap through a house very quickly without moving things.
