Maybe everyone already knows about this, but try pressing CONTROL-ALT-A after firing up Google Earth....

I got stuck in some sort of spin and crashed into a residential subdivision. Hope I didn't kill anyone.
Obviously, I need an instruction manual.

Just use the "Fly To" box in Google Earth to zoom to the area you want, then press Ctrl-Alt-A.
