Yes sirree Bud! I know of it very well. Several hundred people work on it regularly and during full ops it takes about 40 people all in communication with each other to run it. There are many videos of it during full operation and it reminds me of something out of NASA mission flight control.
Once model railroading gets in your blood, like it did me at age 5, it never really leaves. I've only been back at it since December and am already hanging with the big dogs. One of them is coming over tomorrow to show me some for stuff he's learned over the years. I already wired up a USB interface to my layout but my computer system is too big to move. I'm told I could get an Android phone and fully operate my trains through my WiFi here.
This hobby sure ain't like the old days - neither are the price tags! The modelling/crafting skills remain the same and thank God I didn't loose my skills. I've built some pretty awesome stuff and added lighting features to boot.
Today I'm doing some final work on a fueling facility.
While the glue is setting up I'm making my own dirt for ground cover before I ballast the track or start on a mountain. I need the mountain because that's where my survey crew are going to get stuck - just like in my survey experiences.
AT the moment, I'm in need of more supplies, white glue, some paints, track ballast and the like. I have several orders that have to come in I really would like to have.
Not that any of that is going to stop me. I built a helicopter landing pad yesterday and put my little R/C helo on it. I need those LEDs to come in before I build the lights for it however.
There is always something to do!!
E.
Here is an example of something I'm getting some accolades over.
It's an interlocking tower. Something similar to the control tower at an airport but just for the train yard control. I didn't scratch build this one but probably could with the right materials.
All the green trim work was done with a fine-tip paint pin. The roof was hand-painted. The lighting is 3 interior LEDs running about 9 vDC.
Here is my fueling station that I'm trying to finish up.
The blue trim on the shack was also done with a paint pin but everything else was hand painted. Well, the base was sprayed.
