My favorite Jewish joke ends with "It won't be long now."

And here's the punchline of my favorite homosexual Baptist joke:

Sorry Kent, but the initial post was funny. To be fair, he didn't take one aide or another, just posted a funny.
I still don't see how g@y German vultures qualifies as p&r material.

That guy is twisted. Period.

Well, it's easy to find minorities the stuff of jokes. I mean, who can really take them seriously, right? If they were actually regular, serious-type people, they'd be just regular folks, not minorities, right? So the fact that they aren't like us regular folk pretty much means they are inherently funny. Really, they aren't real people as much as they are sort of wannabe people, just the natural material for laughter until we can ship them all off to Auschwitz, right?

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to come around to your way of thinking on this one. Here is why.
1. The story is about birds and the perception they may be homosexual due to their cohabitation, but who knows cause they're birds.
2. When they were moved, a minority group protested the fact that there were homosexual rights in and to the birds. But they're birds.
3. Did I mention the story is about birds?
See, I would go along with nontollerance on this one with you if it were about humans, but it is about birds.
So, as long as the minority isn't human (the reality is because they are birds, we dont know if they are a minority or not) I don't see where the problem is posting a funny. Its only funny because the zoo keepers moved them so they would procreate and help the population and a human homosexual group protested.

I think you just made my point. The reason that Paul posted that "joke" was because of the homosexual subtopic and that is what you've also identified as the salient aspect of the story about the vultures. So, if the topic is homosexuality, given the present state of the US, that's a political/religious topic. In ten years, as the right-wing religious folks collectively get over that (and a whole bunch of other stuff as well) probably not.

Now I'm confused, all this time I thought it was because they were making fun of Germans....;-)

Hey, if you're making fun of Germans, you're making fun of the US. German-Americans are roughly 20% of the population, a larger fraction than from any other European country. It explains quite a bit about parts of the US to see them in those terms.

That's what I thought, now I'm not so confused....
> We're here... we're deciding... :-$
A good rule of thumb: if Paul posts it, it goes in P&R. Hard to go wrong there.

Whether or one is homosexual or is neither political or religious on its face. It's even less when the subject matter is German vultures.

That would be a great subject for you and Paul Lopresti to argue about in the "Politics/Religion" category. Get back to us with a report on whether you've convinced him or not. None of us will hold our breaths, I'll bet.

Kent, maybe you made it political? You do that a lot here. Perhaps some tolerance on your part?

Uh, no. Paul's post was basically about homosexuality. In the context of right-wing discourse, that's politics, front and center. Rule of thumb: if Paul posts it to "Humor", odds are excellent it really belongs in "Politics/Religion".

Politics & Religion? Doubtful......

for me, the article was d@mn funny! This thread however trancends the article in terms of hilarity - Really, this much inane psycho-babble about: religion; politics; and state of acceptance on the topic of homosexuality in general - all brought on by an article about gay vultures!? Seriously Kent, are you trying to be the comic foil here? Its def working (still LOL-ing)

Kent, I don't see sexual choice as political. It’s personal.
More so it’s becoming clear that if you see it as political it probably isn't. You can't pick up a terd by the clean end. Sometimes people just want a chuckle. If you don’t, don’t.

Yeah, the fact that you describe homosexuality as "sexual choice" is exactly within right-wing discourse on the subject. But I'll bet that if you were to ask any of the scores of prominent non-heterosexual-type Republicans, folks like Lindsey Graham or Mitch McConnell, why they "decided" that heterosexuality wasn't for them, if they were candid they'd say that they'd always been that way. It's not as if they chose to be gay.
