I have told both these stories before:
The little 4 year old in a Karate gee at my door and I opened the door in full Ninja. His jaw dropped and never said a word. His parents were standing out at the curb watching the whole time. I had the full hood on, hand and foot covers - full on Ninja. He never spoke. I don't know if he even breathed in front of me. I had to ask him: "Aren't you supposed to say 'trick or treat?'". He said nothing except for to never take his eyes off of mine. Of course that was all he could see - just my eyes.
I had to ask if wanted some candy and all he could do was nod. I could see his parents up by the curb laughing. It was all I could do not to laugh and I got serious and told in him a strict voice to "go with them. They are your parents. Be well my son." I had to put some candy in his bucket. He never asked.
He walked towards his Mom watching me the whole time. His Dad stuck around a minute or 2. The 2 walked on down the street a little and Dad stuck by. I thought I might have freaked the littel boy out. I pulled my head cover off and went out to talk to Dad to be sure I didn't mean to freak him out. He was still laughing. I remember the Dad telling me "you have no idea how much you probably made that little boy's year".
A moment like that just suits me fine.
