Saw this in my email and I figured you guys would be interested...I'd love to go take a trip to Crater Lake!!! Gorgeous hole of water it is... 🙂

Looking for something fun, free, and fantastic to do with family and friends?
Head out to America's national parks where millions of stars light up the dark
night sky, deer and antelope (and a few other critters!) play on the wide open
range, and history is an unbelievable experience, not an exam.

And the best news? During National Park Week, April 21-29, ALL 397 of your
national parks offer free admission, all week long!

The National Park Service is proud to once again join with the
National Park Foundation, the official charity of America's national parks,
to present National Park Week.

That's nice but ...

a large portion of Crater Lake is usually closed this time of year because of snow. If I remember, the road around the crater doesn't open until June or July.

Yea, you have to take the road that goes through Medford. The one up the Umpqua HWY is closed until May or June or whenever they plow it all, etc... I love going up there when there's all that snow up there, though, but it's warm enough to wear shorts!! 😀

We took my mom up there one year...End of May for Memorial Weekend. I told her it was about 90º up there...(Had a rare heat wave) and to wear shorts. As we got closer and we were driving through 10 feet snow drifts, with a road in the middle, she kept griping at me!! "ANGEL, THERE'S 10 FEET OF SNOW ON EACH SIDE OF US!! WHERE'S THIS 90º?!!" Then we got to the top and to the lake...and we stepped out and...low and behold...it was 90º!!! She just looked at me funny. Then she and my dad and the kid took off to throw snowballs, in 90º weather. She made me take a few photos of this cause she thought for sure NO one would ever believe she wore shorts on top of 12 feet of snow. 🙂

Here's one of the pics.

Women ski in Bikinis at Mammoth Mountain in the late Spring even early Summer when they have a big snow year. I don't recommend it (in case of fall that corn snow can tear you up) but they do it.

If you look closely, Miranda has on gloves. She was whining and moaning that she "didn't need gloves" that day because it was warm outside. When she threw a few snowballs, that was it. The snow was too cold and burning her hands. "MOMMY WHERE'S MY GLOVES?!"

Kids. 😐
