When I built decades ago it was cheap and simple to add 4 hanging T-12 fixture in the garage and 4 in the basement.

Option 1 conversion kits to T-8, $$$ :-O

Option 2 hew hanging fixtures, again $$$ :-O

Option 3 do nothing, bingo 😉

For the hours they get used, I am many dollars ahead of the game to wait. I figure I could run out of bulbs/scrap 4 and relocate as needed before I even venture to think about buying replacements.

Anybody had enough reason, other than feeling good, on making the switch to date?

I first bought LED replacements for incandescents 5 years ago, pricey and not fully satisfying, but at least bearable. Home mixture now, incandescents 55%, CFLs 30%, LED 15%. I have some mixed fixtures.

I have an outdoor light that would go through incandescent and florescent bulbs like Chiclets, tossed an LED in and I've had no issues. Ultimately I intend to go full LED, as you mentioned though the price is a smidgen high and the technology isn't quite were I would like it.

Being able to leave every light in the house on is worth the cost of slowly upgrading to LED. I believe the cost is getting ready to come down quickly with the Federal regulations on the incandescent bulbs.

I am curious if the LED bulbs are sensitive to brown outs/power surges.

Could fry a lot of $ quickly.
