The field radios state in the manual they are compliant with Part 15 of the FCC rules. Further down it mentions filing for an FCC license for the radios.
Simple Motorola field radios. Do they need a license ? Reading through rule 15 right now.

On certain frequencies/channels (I forget which ones), IIRC you're supposed to have a license. But I think most of the channels available under the Family Radio Service (FRS) do not require it. However, it may be a violation to use them for commercial purposes.

I know a crew that uses the Motorola "Peanut" radios all the time, but they will remain confidential here.
