Richard, in the US, the typical engineeer is an INTJ personality type, i.e. an introverted intuitive type with extroverted thinking. Interestingly, this is the same type that is common among surveyors.
In Australia, however, I would tend to think that the most introverted person to be found would be considered a raving extrovert in the US.
