Even as a kid i was mesmerized by the amazing amount involved in the failures that occurred here, but appreciated the shear will to try to create.....

As a youngster I watched the TV show Superman starring George Reeves.?ÿ I knew too many others who thought that tying a table cloth or beach towel around their necks and then running and leaping off a chicken house roof would allow them to fly like him.?ÿ It was an abrupt and painful education.
Other adults must have viewed these early designers much the way I viewed my chicken house flyer-friends.
Some of them are truly works of emerging engineering, the wing flapping ones are just well, yeah.....
There are at least two clips in there of aircraft being deliberately flown into 'buildings'.
These were shot at public airshows.
There was a brief craze of deliberately crashing planes into the ground with the pilot surviving.
Those old wooden kites fly and stall pretty slow, and the wings provide a long crumple zone.
Waste of good aircraft if you ask me...
