So.......last week I reached out to a friend about my need for some part time help, just unskilled labor help. He said he knew of one young man but that he would not hire him because he has no work experience and he was very obese. I agreed that it would not be worth considering and told him to keep his eyes open for someone else.
Lo and behold here I was on Sunday deep in a nap and the phone rang, it was the obese young man on my friends phone with my friend in the background drunk as a skunk and babbling incoherently. I asked for him to be put in the phone and he could not remember that we both had agreed not to pursue the obese fella and to keep looking for someone more fit.
It Put me in a very awkward position but I managed to stumble and fumble my way out of it.......sorta.
What does inexperience matter for unskilled labor?
Why stumble around? Just describe the work and ask if he can do it.?ÿ "Can you carry 50 pounds of equipment for a mile up and down steep hills? Can you cut line in brush for 4 hours at a stretch?" Or whatever the work entails.
Leave no interested rookie behind.
I'd be more worried about what your friend repeats when drunk.
I wouldn't spend another minute worrying about it.?ÿ ?ÿ The whole situation looks like one giant red flag to me.?ÿ ?ÿ"interested rookie" or not, as a small shop, you can't afford to waste time training losers.?ÿ ?ÿIMO.?ÿ ?ÿ

Rest assured I am not gonna worry about it but I am gonna have a chat with my friend and remind him that when he recommended not considering the fella do not go any further. And your right, I don't have time to wait for a 6 foot tall 350 pounder to huff and puff his way up a hill.
There is a country music song in there somewhere.
Was he charging by the pound ??
