Been fooling around with a crossword program called "Eclipse". It works OK but is lacking in complexity. If anyone knows of good crossword software I would appreciate a heads up.
Anyway here is a simple puzzle made from Eclipse. You can print it out but it's not very good but........... ????

I used to do one for the California Surveyor magazine and used Eclipse. Part of my task was to include clues that tied to articles in the issue in which the puzzle appeared. An example can be found here on pages 40-41:

As a side note, after doing several of them, I told the editor, who was/is a very good friend, that I didn't think anyone actually worked the puzzle. In the next issue, I intentionally embedded an incorrect answer. Sure enough, he got several emails from readers calling me out on it. I continued to do them until he resigned as editor and the new editor had no interest in continuing the feature. I was not heartbroken.
You know what happened to the guy who invented cross-word puzzles?
He's now six down and three across.
Nice. Wow the “California Surveyor” publication is the nicest I’ve seen! ????
Not the same thing, but similar - I've been doing scrabble on my smartphone with the Wordmaster app - it's free, and the adverts aren't a problem, and it's very good/educational.
I'm hooked on something like a crossword called Codycross. Educational and frustrating which I love. ????
