Can anyone help?

I have a Dell laptop that is running extremely slow.

I recall from RPLS.com that there is a way to stop processes from running in the background, however, I am getting old and can't remember that far back, anyone familiar with these commands, or possbily some other methods for removing unwanted items?

I really don't want to re-install the OS!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance - Tim

My Dell had a similar issue. It turned out to be some malware and some sort of video player add-on.
1) make a backup!!!!
2) Try running a good malware remover, malwarebytes is one, downnload from CNET.
3) Go through your add-delete programs and look for programs you didn't install, check them out and uninstall the ones that may be suspicious. Be careful here, look them up on Google to make sure you don't need them.
4) Try a general cleanup using CC cleaner from Piriform. Run the cleaner and then the registry fixer. That alone should make a difference.
5) Then to get things back in shape, run defraggler, another Piriform software.
6) See step one!!!

Not a pro here, but these got me back in the running.
Good luck!

Under the start button, hit the run command.

Then type msconfig.

Msconfig is a utility which among other things allows you to determine what programs are initiated upon startup. Try playing with those settings, and you may see an improvement.

Thanks guys, I am in the process of working on those fixes.

I have been in class and the field today, so I am just now getting around to it.

Thanks again - Tim
