Bobby Hebb, 72 years old, from lung cancer.
The son of blind musicians, Hebb and his brother were a singing and dancing act when Hebb was hired by Roy Acuff to be a member of his band.
After his brother was killed in a bar fight, Hebb turned to writing, and in 1966 he wrote and recorded “Sunny”, his biggest hit. He had a spot on the Beatles 1966 tour, the song went gold, and was recorded by dozens of other artists. He also wrote “A Satisfied Mind” and “A Natural Man”.
Hebb, who lived in Nashville, had recently begun recording and touring again, before succumbing to his illness.
