I have camped out on a few remote sites for work, but only after getting management to agree to paying me the regular hotel per diem rate for the use of my tent. Once it was pointed out that time lost to hiking in/out would be made up by staying on site and that they would have to pay for a room regardless, then they would agree to pay the per diem.
