Here's what made this trip worth every penny...FINALLY seeing and touching my grandpas Purple Heart Medal. (I waited 30+ years to see this!!! )
He was skinned on his forehead by a bullet while protecting his comrades in his Platoon. I guess he was their leader or Sergeant or boss or something and he said it was his duty to protect his men. A true hero!!! :-$

I'll have to look on his discharge papers. Has a bunch of countries on there that he was in and what he did. I know he was in WW2 and he went AWOL for a bit and snuck into Italy to visit his relatives. Naughty grandpa. B-)
