Tuesday Lady D & I were preparing to head over the mountains to Eugene for the annual PLSO conference.
I stepped off the front step on to snow covered ice and landed full on my left hip, fracturing the upper neck of the femur below the?ÿ
ball.?ÿ ?ÿ Ambulance transport quickly and surgery around 6pm that evening.?ÿ Out of the hospital late Thursday morning , not looking forward to?ÿ
around four weeks of sedentary activity, might go stir crazy.?ÿ ?ÿCould have been worse, a 66 yr old man in the La Pine area did the same thing, no one around and no cell phone on board.?ÿ He died from hypothermia.?ÿ ?ÿ If you have to work or walk on the ice and packed snow get a pair of yak trax or those ones with carbide spikes, could be a life saver.

Been there and done that. I fractured my left hip just like and egg shell when I was 20 and have been operated on a few years ago. Arthritis hurts real bad and it has caused me to over compenate by using the right hip more and as a result I have boogered up that one as well.
I will probably have to get the left one replaced within 2 years as the hurt is too much sometimes.
Life changes in a flash. ?ÿAbout 6 months ago a chair left me and I went SPLAT onto concrete.. ?ÿTime has helped but riding in vehicles grows painful far too soon. ?ÿWishing you the best for a full recovery soon.
It doesn't have to be an apparent danger. Wife sings in church with a guy who last year stepped off his porch and tripped.?ÿ No snow or ice.?ÿ He broke his back and lost the use of his legs, apparently permanently.?ÿ After much therapy his arms mostly work again.
It doesn't necessarily have to be outside. A couple of weeks ago I stepped wrong on the top of my stairs to the basement and my feet suddenly went out from me... boom-boom-boom-boom down the stairs! Fortunately, I had my right hand on the handrail; otherwise, it could have been MUCH worse.
As we age it seems even minor trips and spills are more likely to lead to longterm problems. ?ÿAnd, that tripping hazard seems to get smaller every year. ?ÿA one-eighth inch-high strip at a doorway catching my dress shoe heel sent me into about 15 very awkward steps before regaining a normal posture. ?ÿWhile out feeding cattle this morning I had to walk on frozen mud pockmarked into a thousand stumbling hazards.
