There was once a prima ballerina whose dancing was legendary. She was famous throughout the world for her style and grace. But as happens, the time to retire had come. Not being one to “exit stage left” meekly, she decided that she must do something spectacular.
Her favorite ballet was “Swam Lake”, so she decided to create a special routine for the dramatic final movement. She rehearsed and rehearsed until she had it down pat.
Comes the evening of her final performance and all has gone flawlessly. As the final movement begins, much to the surprise of the audience, she rushes to the first balcony, climbs up on the railing and does a perfect swan dive onto the stage landing in a perfect split.
The audience is amazed!! They clap wildly and demand an encore. The ballerina agrees and signals the conductor to once again play the final movement.
This time she races to the second balcony, climbs up on the railing and does a perfect swan dive with two full summersaults onto the stage landing in a perfect split.
There is now total pandemonium and the audience demands another encore. The ballerina agrees and signals the conductor to once again play the final movement.
This time she races to the third and highest balcony, 150 feet above the stage, where she climbs up on the railing and does a perfect swan dive with two full forward summersaults and two backward summersaults onto the stage landing in a perfect split. The curtain is quickly dropped as the audience continues to clap and whistle.
Later, as a stage hand is gathering up things he notices the ballerina still sitting in the center of the stage in a perfect split. Fearing that something may be wrong, he rushes to her aid and asks if she is ok.
She replies, “I’m just fine. If you will just rock me and break the suction, we can all be on our way home.
