Currently I store all of my project files on a server, where they get backed up each night.
When I screw up a file (playing around with routines I am not familiar with), I have to contact the IT department and ask them to retrieve a back-up tape to restore the file. The most recent version I can retrieve is from the previous day.
I'd like to be able to automatically copy the files from the server to my PC on a user specified interval.
Windows Backup and Restore does not seem to support this reversed method.
I am familiar with syncing programs, but I do not want to risk syncing the wrong direction.
Does anybody know of a simple program to do this? I have a feeling my anti-virus software would block some sort of DOS style auto exec batch file.
IT just came by and suggested ROBOCOPY. I will see how that turns out.
[sarcasm]Then I said to my self, "self..."[/sarcasm]
I use Linux on an old Thinkpad T61 for that task, among others. very little horsepower is required...
the GUI I prefer is LuckyBackup, a graphic input package that uses rsync ... a common tool included in most all Linux distros and the vast majority of servers. It has great defaults (safe, clear) and the ability to finely detail what to copy, and the ability to Not Copy a ton of cruft. The scheduling is up to you, or run manually.
