otherwise trying to hash out this boundary today wouldn't be nearly so much fun.
3 lots in the interior of a 200+ lot subdivsion, platted by a PE in 1971, out in the sticks, nary a single block on the plat that closes by less than 3', haven't found a single called-for monument in over 3 days of digging (and only 4 total across 5 blocks), been chased, growled at, nearly bitten by several of the mangled pit bulls roaming the streets out here (which probably have never been repaved after the initial layout), fences meandering all over hither and yon. hardly a single soul that wants to talk to you, likely due to factors including the legality of their walking around as a free person in texas (yes, there are a couple of ways to take that).
all so a guy can get a water tap...
That sounds more like an abandoned Detroit suburb. 😉
Actually, I've done some work in a couple Atlanta suburbs that should be abandoned then bulldozed. The abandoned house and lot we were surveying had bullet holes. Then we stumbled on a half-box of 9mm rounds in the backyard. A local, Shorty, sort of be-friended us and told us someone had been murdered there. Gee, ya think? I showed him the bullet holes we found and he confirmed to me that was where they found the body. Ironically, I was sitting on the front steps sketching up house details when he told me that. I kept telling the boss we didn't need to be in places like that without packing (and I wasn't referring to our machetes). After that weekend we had to come back and our "buddy" Shorty was telling us about the big gun fight that went on over the weekend. Several people shot. Atlanta PD, including SWAT, had been all the place so Shorty said. I had heard about it on the local news but didn't put 2 and 2 together until he told me that. After that job we got sent off to yet another nasty place not far from that one where a child was killed right in the street during some gang crap. The crime scene paint was still there as well as a big stack of teddy-bears and such. Taso didn't believe me about the bad places he was sending us off to. A few months later me & him had to go back there and asked me about the paint in the street. I reminded him of me telling him about the little girl that was killed and one of our setups was right by it. (not when it happened) He said he thought I had been bs'ing him about it the whole time. Now he started getting a little nervous. Told him he should have brought his gun, other than the S6. He said he would let me pack his heat if I was comfortable with it. No problem.
Up till then he just figured us Appalachian Mountain boys wouldn't have a problem in such a nasty urban environment. I had to remind him we only dealt with a few bears and an even rarer confrontation with a pack of feral dogs. Thank goodness we never came upon a pot field or meth lab or bootlegger still. Actually, I wouldn't have had any problem coming upon a still. Them fellers just might have a new customer. 😉
Alas... once again I ramble on.....
