Roughly 200,000 state workers will receive minimum wage paychecks next month under terms of an order issued Thursday by the Schwarzenegger administration.

According to a letter delivered to Controller John Chiang in late afternoon, July pay for most hourly state employees will be withheld to the minimum allowed by federal law – $7.25 an hour – and then restored once there's a budget.

The White House on Friday released the salaries of its staff members ranging from its lowest-level employees to chief of staff Rahm Emanuel.

Emanuel, press secretary Roberts Gibbs, senior adviser David Axelrod and senior adviser Valerie Jarrett make the top salary amount of $172,200 per year.

In total, the White House pays its staff $38,796,207.

not certain what is going to happen yet.

Bargaining Unit 8, The California Fire Fighters have agreed to a new MOU with GAS which protects them from minimum wage. At the Director's Award Ceremony on Monday it was repeatedly said and confirmed by the Director of Cal Fire (Chief Walters) in his closing remarks that we are a Total Force Department. Everyone is an equally important part of the Cal Fire family from the front line fire fighter to the back office accountant (who purchases and pays for equipment and supplies). In light of this it is possible that the entire department will be exempted from minimum wage.

Arnold says on the one hand he has no choice but on the other hand he is implementing his choice with Bargaining Units that agree to his terms although the MOUs aren't officially effective until ratified by the members and approved by the legislature which approval includes the necessary continuing appropriation so that employees can be paid their full pay.

Meanwhile State Controller Chaing says that under Federal law if an employee works any overtime the State must pay full paychecks. Seems simple enough, assign everyone 15 minutes of overtime each month 🙂

Dave?

When is California's legislature in session?
Oklahoma's session starts ... sometime in January and if all goes well it ends the Friday before Memorial Day. So if Oklahoma would so something which would require legislative approval, we'd have to wait until next calendar year for the vote.
