I thought some of you guys might be interested to see some cool antique US belt buckles that have turned up on the NZ equivalent of EBay

COLT ARMY .44 Revolver

COLT Revolvers Advertising

South Western Stagecoach Co

Wells Fargo MINING Co

UTAH Territory American Express Buckle

The full auctions have more photos of the reverse etc. The seller is a reputable dealer in Auckland. Let me know if you want a link to any of the auctions.

I do wonder about the stories they could tell.

My guess is that they all would say "I was made last year", but in Chinese. Many of those are probably pot metal that has been brass plated and given a faux antique finish. All fakes.

A reputable Dealer and any auctions who have and wish to maintain a good reputation so they can remain in business have both documented those buckles and authentication papers are probably included with the sale. If not don't buy, hard to judge them from here. Thanks for posting them, interesting buckles that represent American history when the West was being settled and developed.

Actually, if you look at the loops on all the buckles you'll see that they are essentially identical and none show the sort of wear that the real thing would have.

In my opinion these are fakes. The patina is wrong and no wear on them.

The Chinese have reversed engineered most everything and have a knockoff product.

Thank Sam Waldon for bringing them to a store near.

After spending time wandering around in Asia, that was what surprized me the most.

If you ever go, carry only the essentials that you need for yourself and enough clothes to get there.

You can buy whatever you need there for less than it cost to take it there.

My most needful things in third world countries are medicine, body wash and toilet paper.

Yes, probably repo.
I like US Civil War and Old west stuff and have several fine repos that I wear on occasion.
Would not think of wearing an original.
They are pure brass and often molded from originals.
If they are in the $10-$20 US range then they are fun and unique conversation starters.
Pakistan is another massive source of repro collectibles. Quite reasonable prices too.

Thanks for the pics. Love this stuff. Postage to here (USA) would probably be the deal breaker.

I would agree with Kent that they are most likely
non-authentic items. There is large collectors market for Colt items.
I have a brother who restores antique Colt revolvers. He is currently at the annual Colt Collectors convention that is being held in Norman OK this year. Big$$'s for the authentic stuff.
He makes the convention annually wherever it is held in the U.S.

Good point, Kent. I have to say I think you are probably right 🙁

Never mind I still think they look cool

BTW I found a realy good biography of Buffalo Bill recently - what an interesting character and showman he was.
