Moose no longer on loose in Panhandle
By JOE DUGGAN / Lincoln Journal Star JournalStar.com | Posted: Monday, November 8, 2010
..Car-moose accidents aren't all that unusual -- in Alaska.
But when two motorists struck a moose Friday south of Scottsbluff, it wasn't a typical case of road kill.
The encounter damaged two vehicles and left the young female moose dead, according to a news release from the Nebraska State Patrol. Neither driver was hurt.
Troy Freeburg, 62, of Bushnell, was driving an SUV south on Nebraska 71 about 10 miles south of Scottsbluff when he hit the moose about 8 p.m. MST.
The moose, killed by the initial collision with the 2010 GMC Acadia, was hit a second time by a Chrysler 300 driven by Jeannia Morris, 44, of Harrisburg.
Moose are common in Alaska, Canada and in heavily wooded regions of the northern United States. They do not inhabit Nebraska, but one passes through the state every year or two, said Kit Hams, big game program manager for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
It's most likely the moose hit near Scottsbluff migrated to Nebraska from Wyoming. Moose that show up in eastern Nebraska most likely migrate from Minnesota.
"We don't have enough moose to say why they end up here," he said.
It is not legal to shoot moose in Nebraska.
Aww....I feel bad for the moose!!! 🙁
Hopefully all did not go to waste.
Apparently all is not what it seems.
The two drivers full names are Troy "Boris" Freeburg and Jeannia "Natasha" Morris. Hmmm... Could be more to this story than it at first seems.
It's a long way from Frostbite Falls to there, thus the infrequent visits.
