Japan Earthquake: 7.4 Quake Triggers New Tsunami Warning Apr 7, 2011, 08:20 by David Hope
Japan earthquake reports are coming across the wire after a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck the east coast of Japan Thursday, prompting a tsunami warning.
The quake, at a depth of about 16 miles, was about 41 miles east of Sendai, which was devastated by the March 11, 9-magnitude earthquake and tsunami in northeastern Japan, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
It also was about 73 miles east-northeast of Fukushima where crews worked to avert an explosion at a nuclear power plant crippled by the March 11 quake.
The tsunami warning was issued for areas within and bordering the Pacific Ocean except Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and California, the Pacific Tsunami Weather Center said.
And a 6.5 in Mexico
I think I'll try and steer clear of San Francisco for a little while.
I'm hearing it's now rated a 7.1 earthquake, and the tsunami warning has been canceled.
