A photograph taken from my front door on May 27. Reworked with photoshop into a watercolor. Which is totally cheating, but I thought it was kinda cool. I am a big fan of Maynard Dixon, and this sky is his, for sure.
Am very lucky to live in a place which provides many photo opportunities. I don't know if Kent McMillan works from photos, but if he would paint this for me, I sure do have a place to hang it.
Nice sky, but it needs to have something for focal points of interest, such as a dark bird at 1/3 down, 1/3 over from left and something bright on the ground at the horizon line nearest to 1/3 up, 1/3 over from right.

Bill, what would be even easier would be to have that photo image printed directly on canvas. Many of the commercial inkjet printmakers will even mount the canvas on a stretcher, ready for framing. It's cheaper to buy a standard size stretcher at an art supply store (or just make one up if you're handy with a miter box and a staple gun) and stretch the canvas yourself.
The cost isn't very great and the results should be very satisfactory (assuming that the resolution of the photo is consistent with the size of the canvas you want to have made. The best part? YOU get to sign it as an original Cottrell. :>

Thanks Bill, but hard as I tried, I just could not get those damn mallards/ospreys/eagles to get aligned to your specs. Only had about 10 seconds to capture the light, and no birds were willing to play.
Thanks Kent, those are good suggestions, and I will look into that. But some day I still want an original Kent McMillan watercolor (especially a dry West Texas scene) to hang on my wall. Just using photoshop software to make something look like you want it to is still nothing like a true work of art.

BTW, if you want it to look more like a watercolor, you might prefer it printed on heavy paper with wide enough margins for matting.
Photoshop should be able to cut out a bird or two from another picture and paste them into your sky.
send me a couple of birds from your neck of the woods. I will paste 'em in.

Thanks
Add this guy into the picture....
I can't leave anything alone ... 😀
For some reason this photo kind of reminds me many years ago (c. 1977 or so) when I was in Pateros- I wandered up to the twin concrete water tanks and sat down on top of one... snapped a pic of my feet when I was semi-reclined... sure wish I could find that photo!
Nice! But you didn't paste in any birds for me 🙂
