What a deal!
According to local lore;
A nearby fire department got a call that there was a cat "stuck" in a tree. Your typical old timey sitcom scenario, right? Well, the chief thought, what?ÿa good opportunity for some publicity! They called the local newspaper photographer and got the ladder truck out. A couple firefighters arrived on scene to find the cat near the top of a tall tree, the owner very worried below. Upon getting the large loud truck all set up, and these scary big men in heavy coats and boots in place, one of the men aimed the ladder and extended it toward the cat. When it was nearly in place the cat got spooked and jumped. It was a tall tree. The pictures (thankfully) were never published and the chief vowed they would never attempt a splat rescue again. I don't know if I believe the story or not but I wouldn't be surprised if it was real. I also wouldn't be surprised if Uncle Paden has seen something similar.
Being a member of the local fire department for 28 years, I have only had one "cat in a tree" call myself. I asked the resident if they had ever seen a skeleton of a dead cat up a tree.
The resident still wanted the cat down so I suggested we crank the pump up to about 140 psi and blast him out. That changed the resident's mind and we left the cat there. We don't have a ladder truck and I'm not climbing a tree to rescue a cat.
