A true story involving two brothers. Both are very plain-spoken types. Both are past 65 years of age. One is outdoorsy and a hard laboring fellow. The other favors stylish clothes and paper work. Both are very involved in the local Lutheran Church.

The outdoorsy brother decided it was time to honor the source of his faith. He started by finding what must have been the largest and straightest hedge (osage orange, bois d'arc, bodark) tree in a 50-mile radius of his home. He trimmed it into a huge post about three feet in diameter at the base and about fifteen inches at the top. The top being at least thirty feet above ground level. He then installed a huge crossmember to form the biggest natural cross I'll ever see. He then carved a lifesize figure of Jesus and somehow affixed it to the cross in the classic pose. He has placed a large sign a short distance from the base with quotes from the Bible. At night, a light is focused on the sign while another light is focused on Jesus. It is truly something to behold.

I was chatting with one of their neighbors about this at a meeting this evening. He quoted the brothers as follows: Harry, the other brother, was commenting to Bob, the constructor of the cross, that he didn't think that the figure of Jesus looked much like Jesus. Bob responded with, "How the He11 would you know one way or the other?"
