Marion Mitchell Morrison (born Marion Robert Morrison; May 26, 1907 – June 11, 1979), better known by his stage name John Wayne, was an American film actor, director, and producer.[1] An Academy Award-winner, Wayne was among the top box office draws for three decades.[2][3] An enduring American icon, and worldwide cultural figure[citation needed], he epitomized rugged masculinity and is famous for his demeanor, including his distinctive calm voice, walk, and height.
My favorite: Hondo (1953).
I watched the Horse Soldiers recently.
Some exteriors were filmed in Louisiana and Natchez, MS in 1959.
Loosely interpreted historical Civil War story.
If I remember correctly, he kind of beat lung cancer in the 60's and that was pretty unheard of at the time. It added to his strong man image.
There are traces of John Wayne in a lot of places....while surveying along the border near Nogales we went through a mountain pass that opened up to a beautiful vast prairie near a place called Lochiel.....Lochiel being the entry point into the US by Coronado, the beginning of the Coronado Trail....John Wayne owned a huge ranch here...He must have filmed in many parts of Arizona...Driving the bulldozer in "Fighting Seabees" ?
