The first thing I heard.....................or thought I heard....................was "How much to find the boundary?"?ÿ That, of course, forced me to ask a series of questions of which the caller finally was able to answer only two of them.?ÿ That was the street address and the owner's name.?ÿ Turns out this was a building contractor whose first language is clearly not English.?ÿ The street address took three attempts before I had it right.?ÿ Very confusing when certain letters of the alphabet have very different pronunciations in different languages.?ÿ I explained that my hearing was not the best to help compensate for needing to translate certain sounds to those which I would normally hear.?ÿ No big deal, really, but relatively rare out here in the boondocks.?ÿ?ÿ
Once I knew where and who I was able to instruct the contractor to have the owner call me directly as I do not do boundary work for contractors.?ÿ Period.?ÿ No more.?ÿ Learned some hard lessons a long time ago that I have no intention of repeating.?ÿ Still, he wanted to know how many dollars and could it be done yesterday.?ÿ I would guess the three week minimum to get started and a number I'm guessing was about four times what he was hoping to hear was/would be very similar to anyone else he might call to do the job.?ÿ He may have already heard four to six weeks from at least one firm that has been limiting their work severely since March due to the pandemic.
If the owner calls I will have some very interesting questions for him.?ÿ Starting with, "Are you really planning to construct a new house on the same lot so that there will two houses on one tract?" His existing house is probably the most expensive house in the neighborhood, by far.?ÿ He owns a huge lot that could support two more houses in the standard situation, but, he will need to do a "mother my I" process with the city before going forward.?ÿ There may be a little bit of a language issue with him, but, not too bad as he left his home country in southeast Asia once he had achieved his medical degree and could be licensed in the U.S.?ÿ That was many years ago.?ÿ He is an M.D. and his wife is an anesthesiologist at the local hospital.?ÿ Very nice people for whom I would enjoy providing a service.
