Would any of our Oz colleagues be able to educate me on this please ?

We have a 'privatization' of land registry records here in Ontario that is 'interesting'.
I note that the UK has clued in: http://www.lawyer-monthly.com/2016/09/is-it-time-for-the-government-to-abandon-land-registry-privatisation-for-good/
Cheers,

Don't know about Aus, but the next round of NZ's computerised Land Registry (Landonline) looks like it is going to be completely outsourced.
this is a VERY BAD move in my opinion
Yes, Jim there are certain functions that should always be 'government' oriented, Land Registration being one.
I have just returned from the Land Registry Office in Guelph where a title searcher was trying her best to read unreadable microfilmed records that follow the chain of title from day one !
And she cannot, due to a 'who cares?' attitude when the records were microfilmed and then burned.
Someone with short pants and an imagination of business sense to match wants to move the LRO further out of the County of Wellington thus making it really convenient.
It is on hold now after a non-positive reaction.
In Ontario, we have a system that has been taken over in part by an organization called Teranet.
Thrill yourself with an on line search of this organization starting here: http://www.teranet.ca/our-company/history
with remembering that a private company must make a profit.
Thus does it cost more for the service ?
