How come the buttons are, IMO, are all screwy? Looks like a Bingo thingy.
I've been there, and I've got to admit that you have a good point. But it's not the elevator - it is all the crap you know is outside of it.
Where is it?
My best guess is this is home base to some major architectural firm. Copied the pic from Facebook.
Starting your day getting into an elevator is a good sign that things suck. The random buttons only make it weirder.
Why do they call it a grain elevator?
Floors 2, 3 & 4 must be restricted provided the first floor is the same as the ground floor.
Floors 2, 3 & 4 must be restricted
Common in highrises to have 2 sets of elevators, one set serving only the lower floors and the other bypassing those.
My doctor's office is on the second floor of a two-story building. The elevator has two buttons, 1st. floor & 2nd. floor. IMHO this is really redundant when all you really need is one "GO" button. 😉
Because that is their function. To elevate grain from near ground level to high storage bins, The early version of the high bins then allowed a simple sliding door and spout mechanism to fill railroad cars very quickly compared to shoveling by hand. Today's massive bins have grown taller and taller to accomodate more storage at less expense.
Somewhere, many years ago, I saw a photo of an early ear corn elevator that had no building involved. There was something similar to wood slat-type snow fence configured in a circle. Then the very tall elevator device would allow the formation of a tall conical pile of ear corn for short term storage. The one in the photo was powered by horses/mules walking in a circle to power the drive shaft of the elevator.

...but bypass 3 floors for the remaining 37? I can see multiple elevators with one set servicing floors 1 thru 20 and the second set servicing floors 21 thru 40. This one just doesn't make sense to me.
There was a time when there was no Thirteenth Floor according to the buttons. Fairly common.
Read a mystery novel years ago that might have been called The Thirteenth Floor where there was a Thirteenth Floor but it was sort of hidden away such that only people with special knowledge had any idea it existed.
Could be one of several elevators that a specific company owns or allows access to based on leases.
either way, weird. the Braille is all correct too...fwiw..

True, but if someone was going to take the time to create this mad, illogical mess I would have expected them to instead create a layout that makes some sort of numeric sense.
I sense evolutionary laziness here.
