This is a little bit of the reason that there are four different banks in four different towns where we have checking accounts.
True story. I arranged to purchase a tract from a close friend who deals with a banker who is of the old school variety. That is, he believes he needs to know more about his customers' business than they know. The tract had a mortgage on it that was about 25 percent of the purchase price. We made our own little deal and notarized it. Then one day he strolled into his bank and made a deposit, all in hundreds and fifties, that was slightly more than what he still owed on his mortgage. Then he asked for that day's mortgage pay off amount and wrote them a check off of his freshly-filled account in that amount and told them to get the release of lien filed promptly. His banker had been holding that note over his head for nearly 30 years. He was not the least bit happy that by releasing the lien he no longer had that control over my friend. He demanded to know where that money had come from. I believe a lumpy mattress or something similar was mentioned. It was not enough money in cash to trigger the reporting requirement, so he had no need to ask any questions. He was just upset about the loan getting paid off.

Feels good doesn't it?
Glad Janice is feeling well. B-)
If someone wants to put money into my account, they absolutely have my permission! I don't think I've ever been asked for i.d. when making a deposit.
I've even had to provide ID to just renew a certificate of deposit with the current "special" rate that is better than the automatic renewal. No money entering or leaving the bank and I had the renewal notice in hand. It strikes me as a bit too much security.
perhaps it is a money laundering prevention thing... any possible avenue to collect Tax.
for example: California State Franchise Board (income tax) duns Ca. license holders for "imputed tax". If you do not submit a State income tax return they send notices demanding income tax be paid on significant assumed earnings. Kinda like those people that send fake invoices and final notices... but they have lien capability.
When I stroll into my primary bank I have no problem being recognized. Smalltown USA has some distinct advantages in that category.
One of the tellers was a high school classmate. The President grew up two miles down the road from me. So we are talking about 50 years of contact with each of them.
I had no idea you were in Hawaii. What island?

That describes my situation, too. I had no mortgage on my little half-plex, no truck payment, no debt of any kind. Marriage changed the mortgage part (a larger house was soon required).
Not complaining, mind you, just noting.
I was debt free when I got married, too. Of course, I was only 17 and had no chance to create any debt because I had no credit.
