And this is part of our problem
Employers not paying good help sufficiently. And as a result - moonlighting.
And the moonlighters will be the low ballers because "Well, I don't have the overhead". And they drag down everyone else.
And a lot of the other things that have already been said here.
And this is part of our problem

This moonlighter charges what he's worth and provides superior service.
Beware of the boss that strings you along on low pay, with the promise of "turning the business over" to you someday.
Had a friend that had a boss like that. Strung him along from age 17 to probably 30. The business was profitable, but the guy wasn't paid quite what he should have been. He had to show up 15 minutes early and stay 15 minutes late on his own dime, doing equipment maintenance. The job involved a lot of frequent travel and he had to donate that time as well. However it was all worth putting up with because it was hinted that someday soon he would take over the business.
Well he finally wised up to what was going on and went out and got his own contractor's license and started his own business. He is making much more than he was before and is much happier.
The old boss? Well - 10 years later he has someone else that he is stringing along with low pay.

What type of insurance do you carry?
I think one of the problems that "moonlighting " presents is that one is uninsurable as far as e&o and general liability is concerned.
Correct me if I am wrong?

I don't perform work that isn't insured. Work on the side cant be covered by your primary employers policy. You have to figure it out and fund it yourself (which is as it should be).
