RTCM Message Viewer Suggestions
Posted by shelby-h-griggs-pls on May 10, 2022 at 3:15 amI am looking for a RTCM decoder to ASCII for viewing exactly what message types a RTN is broadcasting. I want to see data that hasn’t been interpreted by a data collector. I found one several years old (NVS RTCM Viewer) but doesn’t seem to grab all messages, so still on the hunt for something that decodes and displays all messages in a stream.

I use BNC for this purpose. It’s free and you can set it to record the messages. I don’t recall whether or not it provides the full message text or just the message number and relevant data, but I know when I was troubleshooting my nearby CRTN mountpoint (before I gave up out of frustration), it gave me the information I needed.
@jim-frame yes, I have that utility and I was able to get some data decoded, but it seems glitchy or user error, not sure which. Anyway looking for a better solution.

This sounds like a great code project for an aspiring code monkey.
Essentially it’s just a program to “screen scrape” flat file data from a streamed source. Elements for the classes would be time stamped, frequency of the data needed, the actual data and format, and an output file.
After my Java class I see the world differently. Mostly I wish I had more time to dive into these types of problems to solve, and wonder why no one has tried to solve them already.
Probably doesn’t have the same upside as facebook or Instagram so people aren’t as enthusiastic about throwing resources at it. Maybe I’ll poke around and see what’s possible.
What parts of the messages are missing?
@jitterboogie If I knew what was missing I would have the answers 🙂 I am not sure, just want to see. One thing I did not see was antenna type come across, so hopefully it is just my decoder as that is important to know.

I use SNIP
For real-time in the field, I use the Ntrip Checker app on my phone. For later, I will toggle my logging method from Rinex to Post Processing to activate message logging.
@john-hamilton I thought that was a caster only, not a client? I had that running yesterday but didn’t seem to do what I wanted.

@oldpacer thanks, nice app, but it only shows that there is data, not the actual message content. Nonetheless it is now on my phone as something I will use.
