Post-Project Assessment
In the introduction of The Cut Sheet this week, I talk about having epiphanies in the middle of projects that cause you to blurt out, “I’ll never make that mistake again!” I do it all the time and did it when I was surveying, too.
But those feelings tend to disappear once the invoice is paid. You mark the project as done and you move on to the next. If you don’t make a big deal out of those mistakes, you might actually make them again. And again.
In an attempt to remove myself from this cycle, I perform a post-project assessment for each project and keep it in my records for future reference. It only takes a few minutes each time. I’m sharing that simple Excel spreadsheet with you here, so perhaps you can benefit from it as well. As I said, it’s very simple, but it certainly gets you thinking about those projects and allows you to come back after you have several logged to see how things are going.
To read my full rant about this, please take a look at the latest issue of The Cut Sheet (issue #14) and by all means, let me know what you think!
