Digital levels
I have spent the last three days wandering around Intergeo 2019 in Stuttgart. Absolutely fascinating. Unbelievable amount of new stuff out there.
I have used a Trimble Dini12 for nearly 20 years, but since they have not updated it in many years I thought I would check out Leica as I had heard that they have a digital level with autofocus (LS15) and can interface to a smartphone. They did not have one at the show, neither did Trimble. I don’t believe Topcon did either. I did see one at South Instruments (Chinese). There were a lot of other manufacturers of optical instruments and I didn’t notice any other digital levels.
Is no one buying these very useful instruments? We use ours a lot, not only on deformation surveys but also to set control for mobile lidar where they want a FINAL accuracy delivered of ?ñ0.05 feet.
Of course it would be very difficult to change to Leica because I have three 3m invar rods, a few different standard rods (1m, 3m, 4m), and a 0.5 m invar strip, all of which only work with Trimble.
Here is a picture of 1/2 of one of the three exhibit halls.
