Export Magnet coordinates
Posted by BIDDLECW on June 9, 2015 at 9:51 pmI have recently started using topcon magnet field with my new setup. It was a huge disappointment that exporting points as .crd is apparently not an option in magnet. The only way I know to do it is the old survey pro way by exporting a .cr5 and then convert the file in Carlson Survey to a crd. It works, but it is monotonous procedure that drives me crazy especially going back and forth from Carlson to Magnet. IT seems there is plenty of export option in Magnet just not a .crd. Is there an easier way I could be accomplishing this?? Any input would be appreciated.

We export points to a text file then copy and paste to the computer. I also like to copy the mjf file over to the computer so that I have all the data so I can transfer the job to another collector
Install the PC version of Magnet on your computer. In demo mode you can still open any mjf (Magnet Job File). Thus way you can view the raw data and export to many formats from your PC. If you are using a Windows Mobile Device, you save all jobs to My Documents folder. Then you can sync the folders with Windows Mobile Device Center. I use a Magnet on a ToughPad with Windows 7 x64. I save all jobs to my Gdrive folder. I created a G: drive yding old DOS batch file and SUBST command. When I get an internet connection either Wi-Fi or 4g, all jobs are synced to Google Drive, my laptop and my office PC autmaitcally.

We use Magnet with Carlson on a daily basis with no problems. Simply save your file as a *.txt file. Download that file to your survey subdirectory in your project folder. Then open your drawing, go under the POINTS pull down and select Import coordinate file. Select your *.txt file and you are all done.( Make sure your file settings are set to what you want, ie. PNEZD, comma delimited or PNEZD, space delimited, or whatever.)
Magnet allows for direct export of a PNEZD comma delimited text file with .txt extension. We found this option more reliable than attempting to post process in Magnet Tools. We did find it necessary to perform extensive checks to avoid gross error induced by the software. It did not handle grid jobs properly.
Thanks for the input. Which format are you exporting? There is a couple different .txt formats to export. It seems PLT sheet works. What kind of error do you find? When your importing a file back to magnet? My plan was to do most my jobs in grid and do my grid to ground calcs in carlson survey pc with a noted scale point and scale back to grid for stakeouts. Not sure what controller your using but the Tesla with magnet has been giving me fits. I find myself resetting all day. Anyone else haveing any issues. I am running magnet 2.7, I beleive there is 3.0 now.
Hi,
I noticed your post. At this point I am starting to use Topcon Magnet onboard a Topcon OS (7/11/2019) . I too have the a data import problem with my old Carlson .crd, C&G .crd and SMI .asc files. I tried the storing the data as .txt and importing it directly and of the 1,100 points only 160 imported and the relationships are wrong. As I read your post, I should import the points from the thumb drive to a subdirectory in the Magnet and then import the points into the job from the subdirectory in the Magnet software into the job. I’m going to try that today. It looks like 4 years have passed since your post. If you have any other input at this point I would appreciate It.
Thanks J.R.
Points via text file is the easiest option.
Import ascii text file
draw points from field to finish drop down.
Did it for years still do even know magnet is no longer with us
