Surveyors Historical Society

The Surveyors Historical Society is a national organization devoted to preserving and sharing the history of land surveying in the United States. It presents its collections online as the Virtual Museum of Surveying, organized around galleries of historic instruments and documents, a directory of compass makers, and articles from its Backsights series on surveying history, instrument makers, and notable surveyors of the past.

The society brings together surveyors, collectors, and historians, and holds an annual gathering known as the Rendezvous, which combines presentations, instrument displays, and visits to sites of historical significance to the profession.
