National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying

The National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying is the umbrella organization of the professional licensing boards for engineering and surveying in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Founded in 1920 as the Council of State Boards of Engineering Examiners, it took its current name in 1989 to reflect its role in surveying licensure.

NCEES develops and administers the national examinations that state boards use in licensure, including the Fundamentals of Surveying and Principles and Practice of Surveying exams, and it maintains model laws and rules that promote license reciprocity between jurisdictions. Its members are the licensing boards themselves rather than individual practitioners. NCEES publishes the newsletter Licensure Exchange and the magazine Squared, and is headquartered in Greenville, South Carolina.
