About
The Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (IPLA) is responsible for licensing and regulating 40 different professions and more than 200 unique license types as set in statute by the Indiana General Assembly. The IPLA reviews professional license applications, issues licenses, provides customer support, and provides inspection services for certain professions and businesses across the state.
The IPLA supports 34 of Indiana’s active occupational licensing boards, commissions, and committees, as well as subcommittees established by the boards, commissions, and committees to temporarily carry out specific official business. The IPLA’s boards and commissions are charged with the responsibility of holding administrative hearings to potentially impose disciplinary sanctions on licensees who have violated practice standards, acted dishonestly, or acted unethically. The IPLA also partners with several other Indiana state agencies in providing professional licensing services by managing the State of Indiana’s online professional licensing system – the Indiana Licensing Enterprise.
The IPLA strives to ensure Hoosiers have access to robust, safe, and reliable professional services by providing licensure to professionals in a fair and efficient manner. Around 1 in 6 working Hoosiers are licensed by the IPLA.
The IPLA was established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2005, consolidating the Indiana Health Professions Bureau and the former IPLA into one centralized umbrella agency.
