SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT for SurveyorConnect Members

June 8, 2023

As you already know, SurveyorConnect has become a very popular online destination for surveyors looking to share information, network with fellow professionals, and find help with day-to-day surveying issues. During its nearly 13-year existence, it has overcome multiple technical obstacles, name changes, and platform conversions. Through those challenges, it has grown substantially from a meager forum website built at the request of a few surveyor friends to the thriving online community it is today.

If you've been watching my recent announcements on SC, you know that we have once again outgrown ourselves. For over a decade, I have been reacting to growing pains to keep it alive and available for surveyors everywhere. Despite those efforts, the SurveyorConnect brand will be retired, effective within the next few weeks.

In 1996, when the World Wide Web was in its infancy, Mark Deal started a little website called rpls.com. Much like SurveyorConnect, rpls.com experienced incredible growth. Sadly, Mark Deal contracted melanoma and passed away in 2002 ƒ?? but not before passing the baton to POB Magazine. POB continued operations until 2018 when they shut it down permanently. A few short years later, POB itself was discontinued by its parent company.

But all of that now leads me to a special announcement.

Even though SurveyorConnect will be no more, a new and improved online resource for land surveyors will soon be launched: the all-new RPLS.com.

Earlier this year, we acquired the rpls.com domain name. With this asset now in hand, Iƒ??m committed to continuing Mark Dealƒ??s legacy by making the new RPLS.com the best online community for surveyors on the planet.

Hold the phone, hold on to your hats, and keep your shirts on. Get ready for the new RPLS.com to launch in the coming weeks!

To get this party started, check out the official RPLS.com blog. Be sure to keep your eye on it, as I will continue to provide updates there about progress, features, and more.

Will you be transferring everyone's profile and log-on from SC to the new RPLS.com blog, or does everyone start at ground zero?

Yes. There may be a few miscellaneous parts of your profile that don't make it (like location, bio, etc.) but it will be really easy to update that. I plan to start making some tutorial screencasts to help ease the transition. I think you'll find that it's generally easier to use though. 🙂

(I think) The move to RPLS.com is an excellent move.

ESPECIALLY if you could get the old posts with it!!!

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to do this, but not sure if it is possible. I will be looking into it, though. 🙂

nice

@wendell I am fine either way. It could be a chance to disavow a few of my grumpier posts..lol

Seriously, Thank you for keeping this going. It is irreplaceable...

Outstanding, Wendell!  BTW - nice rendering on your blog of future fieldwork.  Can you imagine a beerleg in that environment?

Yeah, that might be a GlargLeg or whatever we end up calling alcoholic drinks in the future.
